Pvolve, the leader in evidence-based functional fitness for women, announced today that a father-daughter duo from Red Deer are the new owners of a studio franchise in Calgary, Alberta. The franchisee team of Katie and Clint Oakley plan to open the studio in summer 2023, Pvolve’s first in the Prairie Provinces.

Pvolve’s Calgary studio is one of the more than 100 studios Pvolve plans to open in Canada. The company will open its first Canadian studio in Victoria, British Columbia, next spring.

Calgary franchise awardee Katie Oakley, 29, grew up dancing competitively, holds a third- degree black belt in Taekwondo, managed a Taekwondo studio and currently is an administrator for a Yoga + Spin studio. She had been exploring the idea of a franchised fitness studio and came across Pvolve after working out with a personal trainer who incorporated functional fitness into workouts. After a series of virtual workouts with Pvolve, she became convinced of its potential and joined with her father to pursue a studio franchise.

“The thing that motivates me the most about opening a studio is changing people’s lives, helping take them to the next level, and that is what Pvolve does,” said Katie Oakley, who will manage the studio’s operations. “I’m passionate about fitness, which has completely changed my life, helping alleviate back pain from Scoliosis, and I want to help others change their lives as well. I believe that movement is medicine, and it is so important for people to incorporate movement in their everyday lives to become healthier, better versions of themselves. We will make this a reality in Calgary.”

Clint Oakley, a longtime entrepreneur, said he shares many of the same goals in life as Katie. “Fitness is one of our shared interests,” he said. “Katie and I earned our third-degree black belts in Taekwondo together, are studying Muay Thai with the same trainer and play golf together. We had been looking for a business venture together, and opening the first Pvolve studio in the Prairie Provinces was a perfect fit. Katie’s professional background in fitness is ideal for managing the studio, and I will advise on how to grow the studio based on my business experience.”

The company says that Canadians have contributed significantly to its record 145 percent year over year growth from July 2021-June 2022.

Members of the new location in Calgary will be able to leverage the benefits of both in-studio and on-demand exercise. Currently, nine in 10 members in cities with studios are choosing hybrid memberships that give them the ability to attend classes in-studio, or on-demand via Pvolve’s digital platform.

“Pvolve already has many loyal members in Calgary who are participating in on-demand, virtual workouts and now will be able to work out in-studio, too,” said Julie Cartwright, president of Pvolve. “Bringing the in-studio experience to Calgary is the next step in our Canadian evolution.”
