At P.volve, it’s no secret that we’re all for celebrating holidays, and today happens to be one of our favorites-- International Women’s Day!
What better way to celebrate a day dedicated to women empowerment and paying homage to those who continually inspire us than by featuring our very own boss-babe master trainers?
We spoke with the women who never fail to motivate us to get their take on exactly what and who empowers them, in the studio and beyond.
What motivates/empowers you?
Emma: I love helping other people, seeing people accomplish things they’ve always dreamed of. Seeing people happy.
Evan: Being a teacher, encouraging and inspiring others to MOVE their bodies while connecting to music. I love giving a little sunshine to people’s days!
Celestine: What motivates me is seeing other successful people and knowing I, too, can achieve this if I work hard.
Lex: The feeling of lightness and clarity from taking care of my mind and body is what motivates me to be my best. There is nothing more empowering than having the physical and spiritual strength to succeed.
What is your favorite motivational/empowering quote?
Emma: “Of course I am not worried about intimidating men. The type of man who will be intimidated is exactly the type of man I have no interest in.”-- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Evan: “There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable it is, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate YOU. Keep the channel open.” – Martha Graham to Agnes DeMille
Celestine: “Nothing about my birth – or yours – was random or accidental. I was born for this time – and so were you. We were each chosen for a particular, cosmically important task that can be done by no one else." -- Christine Caine
Lex: “Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.” --Nora Ephron
Who is the most inspiring woman in your life and why?
Emma: I think my mother. She’s been incredibly strong for me in times I couldn’t be. She always finds a solution and has courage to do what is right for her.
Evan: My mother will always inspire me, for raising 4 kids so lovingly and selflessly, and my best friend Jolie Manza, for making her dream a reality and inspiring me every day to do the same!
Celestine: Martha Stewart. She was a model who became a successful business woman. I used to love watching her home-decorating and cooking show on TV!
Lex: Both of my grandmothers have always encouraged me to be my authentic self and appreciate the simple things in life. Their wisdom and perspective inspires me to embrace what life has to offer while letting go of fear.
What is your favorite workout song by a female artist?
Emma: I’m a sucker for “Defying Gravity” from Wicked. It always puts a smile on my face and gives me a renewed sense of motivation. I think one of my favorite workout songs right now is “In Common- Black coffee remix” by Alicia Keys.
Evan: It’s hard for me to pick a favorite anything but I would have to say ”Faith” by Dawn Richard
Celestine: Rihanna – “We Found Love”
Lex: Right now it’s "Makeba" by Jain. I start every class with this song!
